| "Flowers and Landmines"
is a very appropriate title for this latest CD from Sea
of Souls. This band has a MAJOR handle on the use of
dynamics. Just compare "Wasting My Time" to
"Dimestore SuperFly". "Wasting My
Time" has a laid back 60's psychedelic vibe,
complete with a phased sitar sound, mellow slide guitar
and sweet harmony vocals. "Dimestore SuperFly"
is explosive, in-your-face, rock-n-roll pyro. With
contrasts like that, the music hurls you from one end of
the spectrum to the other. Even within single songs there
are transitions from the calm to the explosive, and back.
The first single, "Gone", has soaring vocals
and a great KISS feel. The title track is a wonderful
hybrid which blends rock elements from the 60'and 90's.
This CD is outstanding, and it's the best work yet from
Virginia Beach, Virginia's premier independent rock band! |
